Our nervous system is a complex system that controls how our body feels and functions. The nervous system is split into two parts — Central and Peripheral. Your central nervous system consists of your brain and spinal cord, housed by your skull and spinal column. The peripheral nervous system is made up of nerves that exit from the spine and make contact with everything in your body. The central and peripheral nervous systems communicate with each other, sharing information about your body, by sending signals back and forth through the nerves. When that signal is interrupted by mechanical stress, chemical stress, or emotional stress, your body begins to show signs and symptoms of not functioning at its best.
